Antonia TYZ Peeples
The daughter of artists, Antonia has been drawn to art for as long as she can remember. Her mother was a painter, and her dad, a photographer, and they encouraged her artistic pursuits at an early age. She began her training as a child under the tutelage of several local artists, and continued at Eastern Connecticut State University and Silvermine Guild of Art in New Canaan CT.
"I love to be outdoors," Antonia explains. "A walk in the woods, a few hours working in my garden, or an afternoon exploring the shore make my day. But the water has always had a special appeal. In my seascapes, I try to convey a sense of timelessness that allows the viewer to reflect on their own memories."
Antonia says that she draws from a broad array of creative influences - "actually, any artwork that stimulates my imagination." Salvador Dali and Georgia O'Keefe are two favorites going back to her earliest memories. She adds that, "throughout my life I have been thrilled by the process of discovery. As I create each piece, I am constantly learning -- seeing something in a new way, seeing something I hadn't noticed before."
She has developed skill in a variety of mediums and styles, and is currently working primarily in pastel and oil paint in an almost photographic style. In the past 20 years, her work has been in many juried shows and has won numerous awards.
Antonia's work is eagerly sought by both private and corporate collectors in New England. A Connecticut native, she resides in the Lebanon area with her husband.
